A Coffee Analogy to The Photosession

the+similarities+of+coffee+with+your+personal+style

Cream, sugar, black…

everyone takes their coffee differently, and everyone does photography differently too!

That’s why today I want to talk a bit about what happens BEFORE you work with me here at Studio MIYA.

#1 - Intention

First, we have a conversation! I don't just show up and take pictures… I need to know sooo much more so that I can tailor everything to create what YOU want.

And the most important thing is the INTENTION behind it.  Hear me out, as with coffee: do you need it to wake you up or just because you're craving it, or is it a social drink to lounge around with your friends?

Well, same thing with your photography! What's your intention behind wanting them? For example:

·         Are you traveling to Cairo to meet family you've never met or haven't seen in ages and want to make sure the moment is captured beautifully for years to come?

·         Do you want to have some amazing pictures of you all together as a family that you can display as the centerpiece of your living-room and re-live the memories created before they all grow up and are too busy to catch them in one room!

·         Maybe you're a new mom with little kids and want to get some gorgeous intimate images of your little bunnies and YOU included

·         Are you single and looking to have just a professional looking image for your LinkedIn profile, but wouldn't mind having a couple of extra natural looking and super authentic pictures of yourself so that your parents stop trying to hook you up by showing your highschool picture to random strangers?! LOL.  The struggle is real!!!

You see, it all depends what is the target in mind so I can capture what you want with the final goal in mind.

#2: Style

Soo how do you like your coffee??? With milk or black?

For photography that would translate to me into: What’s your personal style?

The 2nd thing I need to find out about YOU when you book a photosession with me is that, yes the coffee and the style thing 😉

·         are you laid back and super casual, no makeup, no fuss hair; OR

·         Do you like lot's of color and have a bubbly and energetic personality? PERHAPS

·         You're somewhere in between with a strike of chic and a bit of nerdy

It’s important to capture the real fabulous YOU and to be authentic and to make a real connection with the pictures we’re about to take, you need to be comfortable with how we will design your session, the poses, the lighting, it’s going to be amaaaazzzingg!!!!

#3: Personality

And how sweet do you prefer your coffee??? How much sugar?

In my photography lexicon I would refer to this as how comfortable are you having your session out in the open or if you prefer to have it more private experience with just a handful of people in my studio.

At an indoors studio session, things are more personal and intimate without the pressure of people walking outside looking at you. But perhaps you adore the idea of an outdoor shoot and you're completely ok with your admirers surrounding you? It's all good! There's no right or wrong answer, it's just a matter of knowing what YOU love the most and keeping your style and personality and comfort level in mind.

So there you have it! The coffee formula in my portrait photography “la la land”

·        Intention: why u want it?

·        Style: Milk or Black?

·        Personality: How much sugar?

Now, tell me…. How do you like YOUR coffee?
